Hut Recordings was launched in 1990 as a home for 'alternative music'. The name came from the security hut at the entrance to Virgin Records.
In June 1991 David Boyd joined the label. Before he arrived there had been no staff - all the scheduled future releases were inherited repertoire from other Virgin divisions. The real history of the label began with his arrival.
Two or three months after Boyd joined Hut he heard a demo tape, he followed up be seeing the band in Fulham. The band was signed to the label in August 1991, they were, of course, The Verve.
Today it it still a small independent label, Hut has released over sixty albums in the last decade.
