It was twenty-three years ago that the original Human League formed. Phil Oakey is the only original member still in the band. In 1980 he recruited two teenage girls, Joanne Catherall and Susan Anne Gayle who make up the current band.
Secrets is their first recording in almost five years. Sixteen tracks produced by the mysterious Toy.
The first single to be lifted from this album was All I Ever Wanted. At first not good but this catchy opening track definitely grows on you.
The album also contains some instrumentals such as the two-minute long Nervous, the fast 122.3 BPM and, to contrast, the slow and mysterious Ran. Six of the sixteen tracks on the album are instrumentals.
Fans of the League include Moby and Craig David who regularly performs the classic Human as part of his live shows.
Other standout tracks include Never Give You Heart which features a simple rhythm with some slow and melodic vocals. There's Liar with its strong chorus and up-beat tempo. Another instrumental, Brute also stands out.
There's simple beats, catchy and melodic choruses...everything on this comeback album from the Human League, nothing like Don't You Want Me? though if that's what you were expecting.
