Indie/rock band Magoo began deep in the heart of Norfolk eight years ago. Their debut single was financed, recorded and released by themselves. The Mudshark EP received radio play from John Peel and Mark Radcliffe as well as receiving rave reviews. Reviewers also liked the follow-up.
After signing to Chemikal Underground they released their debut long-player entitled The Soateramic Sounds Of Magoo. Another album, Vote The Pacifist Ticket Today was released in 1998. This, Realist Week, is the band's third album.
East Polar Opposite Can Dream was the first single to be lifted from this album. This track swaps between a high slow riff playing guitar and another guitar that thrashes some chords a lot louder and a lot faster. There are some vocals sung over the 'high slow riff' as well. Brilliant.
Milk Freaks has some powerful and catchy vocals. This is great. A strong beat with these fantastic vocals.
This High Castle opens with what sounds like a radio then suddenly goes into the traditional indie strumming of a guitar. Knowledge Is Power follows. This is much faster, more keyboard-led. Still good.
A fast beat with some more keyboard-sounds is what is heard in The Only Tests With Guarantees, the penultimate track on this record. The excellence ends with Revolutions Of The Planets.
With strange titles like Nastro Adhesivo and Milk Freaks I cannot work out what all of this album is all about but the music is brilliant.
