The Strokes were the hyped band of 2001; it looks like Andrew WK will have that accolade for 2002. He released his debut single, Party Hard, a few weeks ago. This is the twenty-two year old's debut album, I Get Wet.
Getting so much hype from the music press you have to be able to deliver the goods. This is something that Andrew WK has not failed to do. Twelve tracks, each with their own heavy guitar riff and anthemic melodies.
It's Time To Party opens the album; just one-and-a-half minutes of smashing guitars and raging vocals. Following it the first single to be lifted from the long-player; again riffs, guitars and screaming vocals. Party very, very hard.
That's what this album is all about; partying like it's no longer 1999 but the twenty-first century. Guitars, guitars, guitars they've lived through the decades and ended up here, in the hands of Andrew WK; and he is putting them to very good use. Highlights include I Love NYC, Party Hard, Got To Do It and She Is Beautiful.
It's not the same sort of music as the Strokes but everything else is exactly the same; again, believe the hype.
