I built and ran this website between 2000 and 2001, combining passion for popular music and programming. It was listed by MTV's now defunct MusicNewswire as one of the then nascent web's top twenty sources, alongside Billboard and VH1. The most exciting part of it — for a 13/14-year-old excited by new music — was receiving scores of pre-release CDs from record companies. The entire project was written entirely from scratch (frameworks and libraries were not the norm back then!) in PHP linking to a MySQL database, with HTML as well as a little CSS and JavaScript for the frontend; the code is available here.

Shaggy Set For Number One
27 February 2001 | 0:00:00 GMT/UTC

Shaggy's It Wasn't Me is set for Number One this week in the UK singles chart. It has sold four times as many copies as the 'current' (based on Monday's sales) number two, Atomic Kitten's Whole Again. Shaggy has sold 81,000 copies while Atomic Kitten have sold 21,000.

The Manic Street Preachers' two singles, So Why So Sad and Found That Soul are likely to enter at numbers three and four respectively, they have each sold just over 13,000 copies.

Thirteen year old Kaci's Paradise has sold just under 6,000 copies and is likely to enter the chart at number thirteen. Other new entries will include Divine Comedy's Love What You Do (3,500 copies; number 19) and PJ Harvey's A Place Called Home (1,500 copies; number 35).
